What’s working in efforts to address human trafficking? Where are the gaps? And how do priorities and challenges differ from one region to another?
Since March, the Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking and ACT (Action Coalition on Human Trafficking) have been engaging people across the country to better understand those questions through a National Dialogue Series.
The project has brought together perspectives from across the anti-trafficking sector through roundtable discussions, interviews and written submissions. Participants have included people with lived experience, service providers, Indigenous organizations, organizations serving immigrants, law enforcement, Crown attorneys, and representatives from different levels of government.
These conversations are helping build a picture of anti-trafficking efforts across Canada, including the challenges communities are facing, the priorities emerging in different regions, and key opportunities to strengthen the response.
From dialogue to findings
The National Dialogue Series is now moving toward its next phase. The Centre and ACT will review what participants shared to identify common themes, as well as differences across regions and sectors.
Those findings will inform a final report, expected in spring 2027. By bringing together perspectives from across the country, it will reflect the experience and expertise shared by people with lived experience and those working to address human trafficking.
The National Dialogue Series was undertaken independently of Public Safety Canada’s recent engagement related to the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking.
Protecting participants’ privacy
The National Dialogue Series was designed with participants’ privacy, agency and trust in mind, including clear safeguards around how their contributions will be used.
Notes from discussions will remain confidential and won’t be shared outside the Centre and ACT. Findings in the final report will be presented without identifying participants or attributing comments to them, unless they have explicitly given permission to do so.
The Centre and ACT will share more about the findings when the final report is released in spring 2027.
