Resilience Fund Final Report

Major Criminal Code reforms now in force
A package of federal Criminal Code reforms addressing bail, sentencing, intimate partner and gender-based violence, human trafficking, sexual exploitation and hate-motivated crime came into force this summer. Changes relevant to the anti-trafficking sector include strengthened bail and sentencing provisions for human trafficking and organized crime, alongside new protections related to coercive control and sexual exploitation. Canada criminalizes non-consensual sexual deepfakes
Changes to the Criminal Code have expanded protections against the non-consensual distribution of intimate images to include certain AI-generated sexual images of identifiable people. The legislation also criminalizes threats to distribute intimate images without consent and increases the maximum penalty for non-consensual distribution. Learn more about the changes
Combatting Trafficking in Persons Grants: Alberta
The Government of Alberta, in partnership with the Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons, is accepting applications for grants supporting initiatives to combat human trafficking in the province. Applications are open until October 15, 2026. Learn more and apply
New Compensation Fund for clients of immigration consultants
New federal regulations establish a framework for a Compensation Fund for eligible people who experience financial losses because of the conduct of a licensed immigration consultant.
