Land Acknowledgement

Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

The Centre to End Human Trafficking operates across the traditional and contemporary lands of many Indigenous Peoples. Our team lives and works in communities from coast to coast to coast, on both unceded territories and treaty lands. We acknowledge and honour Indigenous Peoples as the original and ongoing caretakers of these lands.

As a workplace largely made up of settlers, we recognize that our presence and work take place within colonial systems that continue to cause harm. We are committed to ongoing learning, reflection and concrete action to help dismantle these structures, both within our own practices and in the broader systems we seek to change.

We also recognize that human trafficking disproportionately affects Indigenous Peoples due to the ongoing impacts of colonialism and systemic inequities. We are committed to supporting Indigenous-led efforts to prevent and respond to trafficking, and to upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples to sovereignty and self-determination.

We approach this work with humility, knowing that lasting solutions must be guided by Indigenous knowledge, leadership and lived experience. Our role is to listen, learn and ensure that our efforts never supplant Indigenous voices, especially when it comes to issues directly affecting their communities.
